Leonardo and Gabriel: A historical thriller with a jaw-dropping twist that will change your life Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,111 ratings

Leonardo da Vinci has a problem

A serious problem.
The soul-wrenching kind.
The career killing kind.
He needs to finish a piece for the Pope—but doesn’t know how.

Alas, figuring it out is no trivial task. In fact, nobody ever has.

Of all the great and grand quests that humans have undertaken, none has been more attempted or elusive than gaining a comprehensive grasp of God. When seeking to know Him with the head rather than the heart, to rely on reason rather than faith, the obstacles appear insurmountable.

If He is all powerful, and we are His children, why do so many suffer so horribly? Why would He punish people who don’t believe in Him? Why haven’t we seen or heard from Him for thousands of years?

Join Leonardo and the Archangel Gabriel as they survey and surmount these stumbling blocks. Listen in as Gabriel reveals why obvious answers remain obscured. Follow along as he leads Leonardo all the way to an intuitive understanding of the Almighty.

Set during Da Vinci’s struggle to give God a face in his masterpiece, The Last Supper, Leonardo and Gabriel is no less entertaining than it is educational. Although the framework is historically accurate, the conclusions of this original work are as unpredictable as they are compelling. Engage with an open mind—as Gabriel councils Leonardo to do—and it may even change your life.

International Bestselling Author Tim Tigner began his career in Soviet Counterintelligence with the US Army Special Forces, the Green Berets. That was back in the Cold War days when, "We learned Russian so you didn't have to," something he did at the Presidio of Monterey alongside Recon Marines and Navy SEALs.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tim switched from espionage to arbitrage. Armed with a Wharton MBA rather than a Colt M16, he moved to Moscow in the midst of Perestroika. There, he led prominent multinational medical companies, worked with cosmonauts on the MIR Space Station (from Earth, alas), chaired the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, and helped write Russia's first law on healthcare.

Moving to Brussels during the formation of the EU, Tim ran Europe, Middle East, and Africa for a Johnson & Johnson company and traveled like a character in a Robert Ludlum novel. He eventually landed in Silicon Valley, where he launched new medical technologies as a startup CEO.

In his free time, Tim has climbed the peaks of Mount Olympus, hang glided from the cliffs of Rio de Janeiro, and ballooned over Belgium. He earned scuba certification in Turkey, learned to ski in Slovenia, and ran the Serengeti with a Maasai warrior. He acted on stage in Portugal, taught negotiations in Germany, and chaired a healthcare conference in Holland. Tim studied psychology in France, radiology in England, and philosophy in Greece. He has enjoyed ballet at the Bolshoi, the opera on Lake Como, and the symphony in Vienna. He's been a marathoner, paratrooper, triathlete, and yogi.

Intent on combining his creativity with his experience, Tim began writing thrillers in 1996 from an apartment overlooking Moscow's Gorky Park. Twenty years later, his passion for creative writing continues to grow every day. His home office now overlooks a vineyard in Northern California.

Tim grew up in the Midwest, and graduated from Hanover College in 1990 with a BA in Philosophy and Mathematics. After military service and work as a financial analyst and foreign-exchange trader, he earned an MBA in Finance and an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton and Lauder schools on a full-ride scholarship.

Brilliant read. I’m not sure where Tigner pulled this from but as a devout and curious Christian I found this book fascinating. Read this with an open mind (or blank slate as Gabriel states) and allow yourself to consider the possibilities posed here. I plan to give it a few days and reread the book to help solidify the thoughts in my brain. I pray that my time is used wisely.

Reading this was a breath of fresh air. Stimulating and thought provoking. It seemed closer to Eastern than Western religious thought (not necessarily a bad thing). The blind man and elephant comes from Jainism. Karma is implied in the discussion of judgement. God as time is close to.the Hindu notion of Rita or Om.

Also closely aligned to deism rather than the notion of God as a transcendent force that personally intervenes in history. In that regard it would be interesting for the author of write a similar book featuring Thomas.Jefferson.

I do think the book fails to solve the conflict inherent in any attempt to combine omnipotence, benevolence, innocent suffering, and evil. Benevolence in particular implies caring and love which goes beyond the function of the laws of nature winding through time. How does Grace fit in ?? Or the passion and sacrifice of Jesus?

Ignorance seemed to be the big sin in the book, but evil can be enhanced by intelligence. How does humility for in here-- and the truth that we are all broken and we all fAll short?

Worthy of worship is equated with the precious gift of time. That seems like a stretch. I would have preferred to have heard about finding the present moment (the eternal now) that is too often lost in our rush to control the future or re-do the past.

A brilliantly written novella about Leonardo da Vinci and Archangel Gabriel delving into the meaning of God, faith, time, etc. It contains many diverse concepts of understanding one's spiritual path; most of which are quite challenging. Some will understand and agree; and, some will be not agree and may be offended. It reminds me Krishnamurti's At the Feet of the Master. On a bell curve, you can see by my 5-star rating where I am. For those who believe, no evidence is necessary; for those who do not believe, no evidence will suffice; however, we are living in the ever present NOW.

There is at least one review here that more eloquently summarises my perception, but I think it's better to write my own just so have more negative reviews on the book. It's not that it's altogether bad for anyone or that I wasn't interested to get to the end of it, it's that it kept disappointing me to the very end, with defective arguments, ideas might have been new at Leonardo's time but surely not today, and in absence of those traits that could make the reading really worth it from intellectual point of view - also lacking interesting plot or deep characters. Might be interesting for those who never thought of religious matters at all, though :)

Book Review Written September 11, 2019
Leonardo and Gabriel, By Tim Tigner
    Kindle Edition (144 Pages)

This novella is center around series of conversations that Leanardo De Vinci has with the Archangel Gabriel regarding God. It is not a spoiler to mention that Leanardo is asleep and dreaming while talking with Gabriel. Most people are aware that Leonardo Da Vinci was the Renaissance artist who painted "The Mona Lisa" and the mural featured in this book called "The Last Supper". However, Da Vinci's genius went far beyond painting. He made breakthroughs in the fields of anatomy, aerospace, astronomy, dentistry, engineering, fluid dynamics, geology, the martial arts, weapons design, mathematics, medicine, music and optics. He left thousands of sketches that represented these breakthroughs, the most famous of which is the Vitruvian Man, a blending of mathematics and art that endeavors to display the divine symmetry inherent in the universe.

Because of the vast and diverse subjects of da Vinci’s works, it is often said his was the greatest mind that the world has never known. Scholars suspect that fundamental to Vinci’s vast number of accomplishments were three factors. First, incredible intellect coupled with insatiable curiosity. Second, his surrounding, Italy during the Renaissance. Finally, his methodology, he began with a blank slate, and drew conclusions based on personal observation and experimentation. The author suggest that you attempt to mimic his open-minded, blank slate approach when reading this book.

Just a little more information about the plot might be helpful. Leonardo is in the midst of a personal crisis. He is struggling to meet the deadline on his project to paint "The Last Super" for his powerful patron, the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Sforza is a man of immense power, pride, and prestige and it was unwise to disappoint him. De Vinci, already has a reputation for not completing his contracts on schedule and sometimes not at all. This time it is different, he had almost completed the mural, except for the faces of Jesus and Judas. He has struggled for days at a time, paint brush in hand, but try as he might his powerful intellect fails to provide the inspiration required to paint the perfect images needed to complete his masterpiece. At this moment of crisis the Archangel Gabriel comes to Da Vinci's aid through a series of reasoned discussions about the the nature, characteristics, and requirements of God. What follows is best described as a rational proof of the existence of God, presented in an elegant, fact based, and plausible set of proofs. This is an excellent, absorbing, and enjoyable read, regardless of your religious beliefs. I recommend it to everyone!

This novella surprised me. Metaphorically, it is an attempt to prove there is a God. The proof is developed by Leonardo Da Vinci with the Archangel Gabriel prodding him with questions and observations. I found the concept amazing but the resolution, the proof seems convoluted. I suppose this is to be expected when someone tries to define something beyond all understanding. A truly fun read.

I don't believe in God almighty who is all powerful, sees all and decides who goes to heaven or hell at the end. So, even though I like a lot the books by Tim Tigner, I was much reserved to buy this one. He said that I'd like it so, I trusted him and bought and read it...

Well, he was right, definitively it is a very interesting and enlightening read. Finding God by logic beats all the "You should have faith" and "Don't ask questions, just believe" messages we usually get.

I, a non believer, accept his analyses and his conclusions :) This is a very first for me. God exists, Tim proved it ;)

If you are a logic person and don't like the "hocus pocus" all the religions serve you, you'll definitively like this book. Read once and come back again to read and analyse it again. It is a short book but there is a lot to think about in it.
